Catia is a 30 year-old guide dog owner. She was travelling around Europe with Lee, her.Yellow Labrador The pair were on holiday in northern Italy. They wanted to improve their English at a School in Malta. Air One have a flight from Milan to Malta so she booked to arrive two days before the start of her course. When she went to collect her ticket she was told that the aircraft operators were Air Malta who had not carried a dog in the cabin before. She would have to place her dog Lee in the hold and pay excess baggage. Perplexed because she had travelled across Europe by air on a number of occassions, she contacted the Malya Guide Dog Foundation via this web site.
It took three days to sort things out but thanks to Roy Perry of the Foundation and Brian Bartolo of Air Malta, she was eventually able to make the flight. Lee slept soundly during the trip, curled up under her owners legs. Now Air malta have agreed to review their policy and will be carrying out staff training this Autumn. The airline has also generously offered the Foundation five subsidised flight tickets... Bravo!
